2015-16 RECAP
The 2015-16 school year is coming to a close and we have reflected on the activities that the PTO has done this year.  When it's written down, you can see it's been quite a year and with the 6th grader parents moving on, we will be needing lots of help from the incoming 5th grader parents and the returning new 6th grader parents.  Please consider giving whatever time you might have available to help our programs grow to benefit the staff and students at HIS.
For the Staff:
Souper-Duper Luncheon
Breakfast Bizarre
Cookies at Christmas
Candy Buffet Bar
Teacher Appreciation Week which included snacks and drinks, a sandwich luncheon, gifts (scarves, jewelry or flashlight) for each teacher and drawing for 41 gift certificates/gift cards from local merchants and eateries
Spirit Sticks for staff to give to students as incentives or rewards
For the Students:
Peppermint Village Holiday Store
Valentine Grams
Mystery Eggs
Mother's Day gifts for moms
Gave out hotel samples of toiletries
Provided Library spirit sticks for reading rewards
Awarded one 4th grader from each Elementary and one 5th and 6th grader a backpack of summer fun
For the School:
Ran a concession stand for the District UIL competition
Collected Box Tops and rewarded the class and individual that collected the most
Sold football tickets during lunch to relieve a staff from having to do it
Assisted with the concession stands for Field Day
We also attended the PTO Expo in Conroe that provided us with a great deal of ideas for next year.
Our only real fundraiser was selling Spirit Sticks at lunch. We are looking at selling Spirit Sleeves also next year.  We do not plan to have a fundraiser that requires students to take a flyer home and for parents and their friends to purchase things.  We know that the elementary students do this and we are trying not to add to the financial burden of the parents.  That is why our Spirit Stick and Spirit Sleeve sales will be critical this next year.  We are still open to other fundraising ideas and welcome parents/partners to offer ideas.  We are hoping to have a summer meeting for anyone interested in helping to plan next year.   We will post the meeting information on our Facebook page to remember to "like" us...Huntsville Intermediate get the most up to date information.
If you want more information now, email or call Sally Dowis at 936-662-6145.

We reached for the stars and found our teachers....
Teacher Appreciation Week is going great thanks to the support of many local businesses that provided gift certificates/services/products.  Names will be drawn throughout the week for the  gifts.  On Monday, the HISD Administration provided ice cream sundaes for the staff, Tuesday we provided snacks and drinks, Wednesday, UHBC is providing a coffee bar, on Thursday we will be providing lunch and on Friday, each staff member will receive a gift, a perk of having the Peppermint Village Holiday Shoppe this past December. Thank you to all who have worked to make this week special for all of our Stars at HIS.

**********Meeting next Tuesday, April, 19th at 5:30 in the HIS Library***********

The PTO has been able to provide the teachers with hundreds of Spirit Sticks for them to give to students as rewards and incentives.  We are able to do this by selling fun Spirit Sticks to students for $1 each. Selling Spirit Sticks is the fundraiser we have chosen instead of sending home brochures of cookies, gift wrap, etc. and asking parents, family and friends to buy things they may not want or need.  Students seem to like the fun Spirit Sticks that they can attach to their back pack or lanyard.  Please support this program by encouraging your child to purchase Spirit Sticks on Fridays during lunch.

Teacher Appreciation Week is just around the corner, May 2-6.  We will post how you can help on this page and our Facebook page will have a link to sign up to help out, also.  We will be discussing this at the April 19th PTO meeting.  Anyone is welcome to attend.
On May 17th, we are encouraging all 4th grade parents to attend the meeting to get involved in planning next year. Please pass this along to your friends.
